High reliability model of mechanical response in drilling of CFRP/Al stacks

CFRP/Al laminate material is widely used in aerospace due to its advantages of light weight and high machinability. For assembling, crowded assembly holes need be drilled for products. However, the damages burr, delamination, tearing appear frequently drilling without precise guidance by mechanical response model. In order reduce machining damages, this paper, a high-reliability model established each stage materials ascertain matching method between materials, tools, cutting parameters. The theoretical expression thrust based on thin plate theory considering influence parameters, further corrected with parameter correction terms predict force, guiding optimization According experimental results, proposed has reliability greater than 97.3% prediction deviation lower 13.2% force prediction. optimized parameters from model, inlet orifice laminated no flanging CFRP layer exit defects as or tearing.
